What are the colors of red wine?

The color of red wine comes from anthocyanins in the skins of red grapes, which vary from bright red to brick red depending on the maceration time, grape variety and ageing time.

Darker colored wines tend to be more tannic and full-bodied, while lighter colored wines are lighter in body and have a refreshing acidity.

Ruby Red: A bright, translucent, ruby-like color that is often found in young red wines. The clear color suggests an exuberance of fruit and a light, lively mouthfeel, often found in Pinot Noir or first-growth Merlot.

Deep Purple: A rich, full-bodied color, barely translucent and visually substantial, usually from tannin-rich varieties such as cabernet sauvignon and ciabatta.

Garnet: Garnet red has a reddish-orange color with a warm halo around the edges, and is often found in slightly aged red wines. This color indicates a gradual mellowing of the wine body, with richer aromas and layers. Brick Red: Brownish in color, resembling a red brick baptized by time, it is mostly found in red wines that have been aged for many years. Brick red often signifies the maturity and roundness of the red wine's flavor and multi-layered aroma.
